The Elephant

In the dry season in the Kalahari Desert of southern Africa, thousands of elephants begin a desperate trek for food and water. Via a network of temporary waterholes, they are heading for the Okavango, a vast inland delta. At the moment it is dry, but the waters will come.

A tiny calf struggles to keep up with the herd. Though the mother is intent on her goal she won't desert her baby. But one youngster is not so lucky. Thirsty and exhausted, it follows the tracks of its mother, but in the wrong direction.

By day the elephants dominate their waterhole. But at night, lions lie in wait. And these are specialist elephant hunters, looking to pick off the young or weak. How long will the uneasy truce last? Learn about the lives of elephants.
